A lectio divina training for personal prayer and small groups
Lectio divina — “divine reading” — is one of the oldest ways Christians have prayed with Scripture. Its aim is not first to master a passage, but to begin a dialogue with God in the heart. Read slowly. Stay with a word. Speak to the Lord. Rest. Then take that word into the rest of the day.
Lectio — Read – What does the text say that everyone should understand?
Meditatio — Meditate – What does the text say to me today, for my life?
Oratio — Pray – What can I say to the Lord in response to His word?
Contemplatio — Rest – What is the Lord asking me of my mind, heart, and life?
Actio — Live it – How will I live this word as a gift for others?
